| Message from the President
If you have considered
a career in a health profession, then the Student Health
Professions Association (SHPA) is the club for you!
This club has been established since 1986 and has a
trusted relationship with the Health Professions Advisory
Office. The club's officers are motivated individuals
who are goal oriented to serve members of the club and
facilitate the sharing of important information. Guest
speakers are invited to discuss various health professions,
current medical ethical issues and volunteer activities
within the local community. Admission counselors from
different schools in California visit our meetings and
inform the students of their admission requirements
and tours of the schools are facilitated.
The weekly SHPA meetings are insightful
as the student learns what careers are out there and
how they can better prepare themselves for their future.
SHPA also offers members a tremendous opportunity to
network with fellow students pursuing similar career
choices, admission counselors from professional schools
and members of the Health Professions Committee and
Advisory Office. The club has the ability to cultivate
and fine tune leadership skills that will be an undeniable
asset in your future health profession.
However, apart from the business of
school, we also plan to have fun! Social days of hiking
and skiing will give members the chance to get to know
each other in a relaxed environment. We look forward
to an exciting year and encourage you to participate
in the wonderful experience of being a member of SHPA.
Best of luck for the academic year!
Lynell Newmarch
